MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM FQP

Many thanks to all our contributors this year, and we hope you ll have a fantastic 2009. Remember that FQP is THE place for quality storytelling and that our first new comics will be on sale at the second HI-EX! in February.

Best of the year?

Over on the Forbidden Planet Blog, FQP's very own man of Manga Richmond talks about the best comics he's read this year.

Christmas 2008.

In the run up to the holidays, there are quite a few of the talented folks who provide strips for FQP that send out cards. I’m going to be reposting as many of these as will let me as I get them.

First up is Neil Roberts, who drew Dulce et Decorum est in FQ11 and Beaten Path in SW04. Neil is currently working on a strip for this years Something Wicked

Next we have a pair of cards from Paul Carter. Paul is known here for his work on the Big If in SW02 and The Twist in SW03. He’ll be back soon in the pages of FQ in 2009.

Finally for now we have those scamps from Hi-Ex! which is where you will find the launch of both FQ12 and MQ07.

Michiru Morikawa.

Those of you who have been reading our comics for long enough will no doubt remember Michiru, she was the wonderful artist who drew the lead strip for MangaQuake 01, and also contributed to MQ02 before she became waay to big for us.

A couple of years ago she was commissioned by Birmingham city council here in the UK to create some illustrations for use by the council's adoption service. At the moment there are public transport buses with her images on, as well as poster displays around the city centre. Last week one of the local newspapers carried a supplement that featured the images you see here.

Every time I see the graphics I am intensely proud that we managed to help present some work of this talented artist.

MangaQuake 2.1 is now online in the FQP Stripviewer. It seems like a lon time ago that we had all that furore over the cover.

Enjoy!

Contributor Update: Stewart McKenny

Gencon is a comic convention based in Brisbane Australia, and I've just discovered that FQ fave (one of mine anyway) STEWART McKENNY was a guest there. Check the link at the start to visit to page with his profile where he namechecks FQ, what a guy.

Stewart is also getting to be something of a go-to guy in the comics world. as well as his work on Dark Horse' comics's Star Wars titles he's also part of the art team on DC comics's SUPER FRIENDS too! How freakin' cool is that!

Stewart still has plans for a return to the pages of FQ as well, but is having to wait for a gap in his schedule. I can be patient....

FutureQuake 06 to read for Free!

Exactly what it says on the header. If you take a trip over to the FQ website (link on the right for those of you who don't know) you will now find that the index page for FQ06 now has active links to the relevant stripviewer pages.

FQ10 Reviewed in SFX

Not a bad review at all. I can see where they are coming from with their comments. Hopefully they will prefer the next issue...

Coming soon- FQ 1-3 to the stripviewer.

Very pleased to be able to let folks know that in the not too distant future I'll be able to add the strips from long out of print FutureQuake 01-03 to the strip viewer. This is where it all started folks and I'm very pleased to be able to add them to the volume of work available to read for free.

MangaQuake 07: Confusion Reigns

Thanks for this image go to VĂ©ronique Trigo; a superbly talented creator who is working on a strip for the next issue of MQ (07)

The reasons why this came about are available as a slightly embarrassing conversation at conventions in the future.

Birmingham News Reports.

These are the stories run in the local press for the convention. Remember to click for larger images.

Many thanks to all who came and said hi! I've already had to go to the printers for more copies- especially of Something wicked 04. We didn't sell out on the day, but we don't have enough stock for me to meet the contributor copies till Friday!

Changes to the Futurequake Website: STRIPVIEWER

Something we've been planning for a while is now starting to happen! If you use the FQ site at all you will be aware that the strip viewer is a bit of a cumbersome beast, and that you have to read a whole issue.

Not no more you don't! Thanks to webmeister Barny you can now read individual strips!

Navigate through to the page with all the covers on and select one- say FQ04 for now, what you'll see is this:

You see the little white lines with the Strip title in? Click on one and you can read the strip! Wicked eh?

So far there are only FQ04 and 05 available, but over the next few weeks and months I'll be updating the pages for all of the issues that are now out of print.

From the mind of Artist Steven Denton. This ticket is 'No Laughing Matter.'

2 pics of pencils from John Cahill's work on 'Graveyard Shift' written by Chris Lynch.

Welcome!

Thought it was about time we got one of these sorted for ourselves. The simplest way of letting folks know when new product is available and when old product is added to the site for free!

I'll be posting new preview images from the comics on the message board threads (follow the link on the right hand side) throughout the next few days so remember to check back for a taste of what FQP has in store for you this autumn!

For starters here is a lovely preview image by strip artist Caroline Parkinson for FQ11 lead Strip 'Lazarus Falls'
