Available now from Renegade Arts is Turning Tiger, the collection of the story by Richmond Clements and Alex Moore. This collects the two part story of love, betrayal and giant robots that Renegade published digitally earlier this year.

In the interest of fairness I need to remind you that Richmond is one of the editors here at FQP; however this is a cracking little collection of a solid piece of work. Richmond has an ear for snappy dialogue and a clear, focussed approach to storytelling. The art by relative newcomer Alex Moore is also accomplished and compliments the story.

Rounding out the collection is a gallery of images by Michael Carroll, Alexander Vincent, Vicky Stonebridge, Chie Kutsuwada, Shane Oakley and Simon Coleby presents his alternate cover to issue 1.

FQP- Open for scripts again!

Well, it has taken almost exactly a year, but we are finally in a position to accept scripts for FutureQuake and Something Wicked once again.

If you have a story- one that is so awesome it deserves to be in the pages of the finest Small Press anthology on sale today; then you should mail it over to futurequake.comic@gmail .com

Scripts will be read on a first come, first served basis, and you should be warned that it maight take us a while to get round to it.

Sold out! MangaQuake all gone...

Way back in the mists of time, there was an idea. Why not see if we could generate enough 'manga' style strip to put a comic out. We could, so we did, and MangaQuake forst appeared at the Brighton comic expo in 2005.

"Woo!", thought the team at FQP, we've got another comic out, lets get a second issue done... Well we had a bit of a mishap with the cover but we managed to put that behind us and get a solid comic out.

We completed 7 issues of MangaQuake in the end before we realised that it just wasn't working anymore. The issues were getting increasingly difficult to compile, and we never managed to get the audience right for the title; so it was with regret, we let it go.

Why am I wittering on now? Well I've just sold the last set of issues 04-07 that we had. Which means that all that remains are a few copies of 04 that were left over from an artist asking for 50 copies to be shipped over to the US for him to sell on- only to discover that he could not afford it, after promising me that payment was made. Lesson learned there. We also have the last few copies of issue 07, which features an astounding adaption of an Oscar Wilde story. If you ever drop by the FQP table at a con, ask me for a copy of MQ- You can have one gratis. I'd rather give them away than let the comics languish in my front room any longer than I have to.

Thanks to everyone who read MangaQuake, and by extension everyone who has supported FQP over the seven years we've been putting comics out. It really means a lot to us all to know you are there.

Tony McVeigh FQ & Zarjaz contributor and is looking for an artistic collaborator for his new action\adventure webcomic.
Some info on the job:
1.) Looking for an artist who can pencil and ink (colour is welcome also but optional).
2.) The webcomic will be updated with 3 new pages every month. With an eye
toward making finished story-arcs available in print through IndyPlanet or
something similar.
3.) This is unfortunately an unpaid position.

Every now and then here at FQP we'll get a script from a writer that we like, but we know that it isn't quite 'there' for want of a better word. However, it can be difficult to determine exactly what needs to be done to the script to really get it right. This is one of those scripts. When John sent it in I thought seriously about rejecting it, but then I had an idea- what if, instead of rejecting it we instead passed it over for a training strip that once completed was placed on the blog for all tosee and comment on?

John was happy for this to go ahead, and so began the next stage; the artist. I'll not mention any names of artists attached to the strip, save for one- Owen Watts. Folk who've been around for long enough will know that Owen has contributed a few times to FQ- once he reworked an existing strip that had already run in FQ, the second time he produced a set of pages for the first FQ Family special, which were themselves reprinted in FQ proper.

Owen has turned in a cracking pair of pages for the strip, and so I present to you:

Flippi-Neck! I've been back a week and I've barely had time to breathe- let alone catch up on the weekend that was Bristol 2011.

Huge thanks go to my travelling companion- artist Dunk! Nimmo, for helping the trip there and back again pass by in less time than I'd have believed possible.

Saturday was a treat and it was great to both catch up with folk and finally meet some folk I've known for years!

We here at FQP are once again, incredibly proud to be in the finals for the EAGLE AWARDS for 'Best British Black & White comic'. Voting is currently open HERE! and you can vote till April 11th 2011.

This is the fourth time in five years that FutureQuake has been shortlisted for the finals and including ZARJAZ and DOGBREATH this means that we have three of the five titles eligible this year.

The awards are to be announced at London’s MCM Expo on Friday May 27^th 2011. Good luck to all nominated.

After today, Dave is away for 3 weeks, sunning himself on a long awaited holiday. He'll be back as of the second week of November, so if anyone emails him, or buys any comics he'll pick them up when he gets back.

He's also trying to get the last of the contributor copies away before he goes, but if he doesn't manage- he's really sorry, and will catch up with you asap.

FQP in the Press: Comic Heroes! #3

The new issue of comic heroes is out at the moment, for the rather pricey £7.99. It has amongst its features a rather well written piece on the UK Small Press scene written by Matthew Badham. as part of the feature Both Richmond and Myself are quoted, and Gibson Quarters rather spiffy cover for FQ15 is presented.

Also shown is the new cover for Dogbreath 23 by James Feist, but I'll be putting that on The Quaequam Blog!

The End for MangaQuake

MangaQuake is no more. The last issue released was 07, back in Early 2008 ready for the first Hi-Ex up in Inverness. Since then, despite the best efforts of all here at FQP, we haven’t been able to get an issue together.

The strips that are completed will be running here on the FQP Blog for the next few weeks, and they are fantastic stories that I would have been proud to print.

There are still issues of MQ available in the shop, and that is not going to change. In the launch of the new titles I will be changing the issues available over to a low-price bargain pack to hopefully allow those of you out there who haven’t tried MQ to see some of what you missed.

I want to take the opportunity now to thank all those who took the time to work on strips for us for MangaQuake- the title will be missed.

FutureQuake 16: Cover!

The cover to the latest FutureQuake, which will be on sale in time for the BICS gig in October, was very graciously provided by Lee Carter. Lee was asked about this back at Bristol in May (and within a half hour of talking to Boo Cook about the cover for Something Wicked 06) and he was kind enough to agree.

I sent Lee the script for 'BARGAIN HUNTER' and he sent me the rough below, which I was only too happy to approve.

Lee Sent me the final image at the start of this week and I am proud to be able to present it to you. A fantastic, horrible image that serves to highlight the talents of one of the rising stars in UK comics. Thanks Lee.

SOMETHING WICKED 06: COVER!

On sale in time for the BICS gig over the weekend of 15-16-17 October, this issues cover was provided by the stupendously talented Boo Cook! I asked Boo about this back in May at the Bristol expo, and despite being horrendously busy he said yes.

Fast forward to the start of September, and I sent Boo the script for Pawnshop Heart to read, as I had decided that it would be the lead strip for the issue. Boo sent me the pencil roughs for the pencil images below on the left and centre.

Then I got the pages through from strip artist George Coleman. Just in time for Boo to ask if he could have a squizz at them. In what to me was an astonishingly short time, Boo sent me the pencils on the above right, which he was realy excited about getting to grips with..

And here is the resulting final pencils; which Boo worked up seemingly overnight into the final image at the top of the post.

I'm incredibly proud of this cover, and think that it is a fantastic showcase for one of our finest homegrown talents- Thanks Boo!

Deadline DOOM!

Depending on when you read this- the deadline has now passed for all strips that are to be considered for the new titles. In this case it is for FutureQuake 16 and Something Wicked 06, both of which are to be on sale at the BICS gig in October.

What happens next is that I have to actally build the comics. Normally this is a doddle, strips slot in as they arrive and that is it. However, this time there has been something unusual happening- More strips are actually being delivered by deadline!

Usually, what happens when I commission a strip is this- I tell the writer and artist when the deadline for the next issue is, and then I sit back and wait. Quite often, for reasons that are many and varied, the strip will not make that deadline; after all this is free work we are talking about here, I'm not in a position to get heavy about something I'm being 'given'. So with that in mind I normally 'over' commission for any given issue- in the solid expectation that some of the strips will be arriving late, and therefore roll on to the next issue.

So far so good. Except that for the current crop I've had a very good group of artists. One or two have even pulled all-nighters in order to hit the deadline. This has resulted in me having more strips 'in' than usual.

FutureQuake and something Wicked are both 48 page titles. I've 'currently' got 63 pages COMPLETED! for FQ16, with more awaiting final print files. Something Wicked also has 63 pages in.

My point- I hate telling folks that I am bumping the strip to another issue- but I've got a lot of it to do. However- I reckon that next year I'll be easily able to put out three issues of FQ

Thanks for reading- and if you are one of those fine and wonderful creators I've let down- remember- your strip was fantastic, and it is purely logistics that has caused the delay.

Over Here! The mighty Boo Cook has posted about his astounding cover for the next Something Wicked. The cover presents us with the chilling visage of 'Porkeyes'; one of the main characters in 'Pawnshop Heart' by Robert Murphy and George Coleman.

I've yet to add the cover text to this beauty, but when I do, I'll post it here first, along with Boo's preliminary sketches for alternate versions of the cover.

2000 AD prog 1687 contains a first for Tharg- His first script from Robert Murphy.

Regular readers to FQP may well recognise robert as being the writer behind 'THE TWIST' in Something wicked 03, with artist Paul Carter. He was also responsible for 'WORLD CONQUEST' in the Eagle award nominated FQ12, with art by George Coleman.

Robert is also collaborating with George again to bring us 'PAWNSHOP HEART' that is hopefully going to be in Something Wicked 06, later this year.

Congratulations to Robert, here's hoping to see you once again in the pages of 2000 AD

Over on Millarworld, they have been running what amounts to open auditions for the upcoming CLiNT Mag, of which FQ has had multiple entries. Some of which I didn't even know of till I looked just.

The first was a reworking of 'THE JOY OF TEXT' (Image is a bit NSFW- IMO) by Paul Glasswell & Simon Penter (Who coloured the pages all special-like)

The second is 'THE PROPHET' by Derek Hamill & Andy Scordellis.

Bristol musings!

Bristol was a great weekend to catch-up with folks, and to finally meet a few folk out there in the real world that I hadn't met before.

Gibson Quarter is one of the mainstays of the FQP artists, and it was awesome to finally meet the man himself, and he was sat right next to us all weekend! He chata about his time Here!

I have provisionally managed to get two, not one, professional artists to provide the covers for FutureQuake 16 and Something Wicked 06. Both of these will be on sale for the Birmingham gig in October, which is also when the Eagles are going to be announced.

Fresh back from Bristol where a great time was had by all (sorted a couple of cracking artists for the end of year covers) to discover that the Eagle awards are up and running for 2010.

Futurequake has made it to the finals twice before, in 2007 and again in 2008 (there were no awards in 2009) so this makes it three times in a row for FutureQuake.
